Yes and no is the honest answer. If done properly you can get your ad on the first page but depending on how good you are at picking your specific keywords you can get a lot of traffic. This traffic may not be buying traffic though if you don’t really focus on your exact keywords.

I created a simple website for a small business I just started. I signed up with Google Ad Words (which can get expensive), but I was wondering what the best way would be to get my website to show up in search engines like google and yahoo. Is there a company online that will do it for a flat rate or a monthly rate. I’ve searched this, but it just seems so complicated.

The best way is to submit your site to directories, social bookmarking sites ….

I have friends and know a lot of people who advertise on google ad words and there advertisements show up on the side… how is it possible to make ur ad show up in the YELLOW shaded area on the top, right below the search engine because i will be advertising and whatever it takes, more money… and ive tried searching places.

this place is reserved for displaying ads on Google’s discretion. you cannot reserve or buy that spot.

I suggest you start learning about Adwords and study how it works. Then imagine yourself on the other side of the fence — not as an advertiser but someone who looks and checks on the ads as an Adwords representative.

How are google ads/SEM/paid search words sold to local businesses?

I know google has offices in Mountain View and NYC, but how do they sell to local markets? Do they have satellite offices or local sellers that report to CA or NY? If live in Phoenix and want to sell local business google search words or paid SEM how would that work?

If I understand correctly, what you want to do is offer managed PPC campaigns for local businesses in your area.

For this, you’d have establish an account with Google AdWords and Google Webmaster Tools. With Google AdWords, you’ll be able to create/edit/manage your online ads.

Additionally, you will have to verify the sites through the Webmaster Tool in order to set geographic targets for those sites.

I’ve been running an ad campaign for an attorney in my town. Today, I went to get paid and wanted to show him that I had secured him top position on about 80 words. When I tried any of the words I knew came up first, his computer didn’t show them. I then went to my college a CSU and typed them up and they came up first. I’ve been working really had to keep bids low but still keep on top, rather than just defaulting a high amount. Here’s the thing, I told him that his network must be set to a different area or broader range, and I am specifying within about 60 miles of our town to stay out of competition with larger city law firms. Therefore if he’s set to just California or a different town our ads wouldn’t show. I called my website guy and he ran query’s on the search and came up with us first position also. The attorney called the guy who set up his network and asked him to search, the guy reported back that his laptop didn’t get any results, however his work computer (a large local hospital) showed them coming up first. He then stated that if his didn’t come up and the cpu’s in the attorney’s office weren’t coming up then maybe I was missing a loophole of potential clients. I told him that maybe since the guy who set up the network and his own laptop didn’t work then perhaps the guy is a jerk off who incorrectly set the IP and is not a cpu expert or have a degree in cpu science, but neither do I. For whatever reason since his job title has nuclear in the name he is apparently a genius in this guys eyes. This guy is a nuclear medicine tech, and when the attorney described him he said he’s a nuclear physicist or something, big difference. So, I called about 10 people I know from around town to run searches and all came up with our ads in first or second position. What should I tell the attorney, he wants me to research the industry to discount this guys claims, when I know the guy just screwed up and is covering. Any cpu experts out there have a good answer with terminology I can defend my work with. Thanks.

If you bid for adwords in Google you may come on top or first. But if, in the meantime, somebody bids higher your rankings will fall. You have to be at the ball all the time. Are you bidding for adwords in a specific area or town? Then it’s easier to get top rankings but as I said you must closely follow your rankings. Also, if you check in a different town or area you may get different rankings if you bid only for a specific area.
