How did the Twilight books become so popular?

Serious question. Was it good marketing? Posters? Fliers? Ads in magazines? Reviews? Word of mouth?

I think it was just what society needed at the time. As a country we are in a time where things are far from perfect and far from what we want them to be. Relationships become dull and I believe that Twilight gave people an escape and get away from everyday life into another world. I think that it was word of mouth that allowed this book to skyrocket in popularity.

because of the movie that came out..
people are lazy..they only pay attention to popular movies then reading the books..
the same thing happend with Harry Potter.. it WOULDNT have been so popular if it werent for the movies

I think it’s because the whole story is very wish-fulfillment-based. None of the characters are described in great detail (except Edward, but most of his descriptions fail to give a clear picture of what he actually looks like), so it’s really an invitation for the reader to plug themselves in, and to fill in the details with whatever they want.

Also, after the series started to gain momentum (especially after the movie), the marketing exploded. They sell everything from posters to body glitter to lunchboxes. It’s actually rather ridiculous.

okay, ive read harry potter and twilight. and i loved them both!! but i disagree when people say it only became famous cuz of the movies. its not true. and im not just saying it! i’ve got sources of books sold when it was first published. and that was way before they even thought about making a movie for it….of course, its only my opinion. so im not offending anyone and i respect their opinion…

I have to think these are the corprets of geting those books popular…

1)It is a easy read for people who really don’t want to read a serious book.
    2) For those who enjoy reading it has a nice storyline and unique ideas of preexisting myths. It is a romance novel for young people who really don’t need to be exposed to such thing so it give little detail about real love.

3)"the next Harry Potter" slogan might have cot some HP fan’s eyes when the thing first came out.

4)Then it was the fact that it was on many summer reading lists for schools.

5)It has a nice pretty cover that really catches people’s eye in book stores.

If you really need more detail… you must know that i have absolutely no clue… in all seriousness how a book written like that could have ever hit the top ten list… I haven’t the factious idea how it became popular… i just listed what it could have been as a person who has only read one page of the thing (and never want to read another word of it ever again).

Hope this helps at least a little… wish i knew how to get a badly written book on the top ten list too… if you are asking for your own writing’s publication then pick a different book to get publication info from… this one’s a bad example… your probably better than that.

    Well at least I’m honest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Twilight didn’t use to be this ‘famous’ until they cast that goofy kid wotshisface as Edward Cullen and turned it into a film.

The marketing was also kind of bad, which is weird – but there was a lot of it. It’s kinda like putting up a picture of a clown with a venue and a time everywhere and everyone wants to know why there is a picture of a clown and eventually they go to that place and they get slaughtered by cannibal clowns. Curiousity killed the cat. Power of marketing. Boom boom pow.
