Would you pay for an AdWord banner on the top of Google if your organic listing was already number 1 ?

My client has high listings (numbers 1, 2 or 3) on a number of keywords yet is still paying for an Ad Words banner for those words on the top of the Google search for those words. I would just like to find out if you think this is a good idea (increased brand awareness etc) or a waste of money. Thanks in advance for your response. Simone

I think a lot of businesses will do this. I suppose it depends if a competitor is likely to bid for these terms and if you think it is likely that people will click on the Ad Words banner over the the organic search results.

It also depends on how much they are paying, I assume they don’t get enough conversion from the click throughs to justify the cost?
